On Earth, as well as in Addewid and Annwn, all life forms have physical and non-physical aspects to them. Entities on Earth that don't have this non-physical presence are referred to as "inanimate". It is relatively straightforward to discuss and describe the physical attributes of a physical entity because it can be seen, touched, measured. It also occupies space. The non-physical nature of animate objects, though, are less tractable, primarily because they aren't normally seen, touchable or measured, nor do they occupy space.
On Earth, after the Age of Enlightenment, the non-physical attributes of existence came under greater scrutiny, if not skepticism. If an attribute could not be seen, touched or measured, there was significant doubt with respect to its existence. As a result, a large percentage of humanity became less connected to the spiritual aspects of the world around them, seeking to explain all phenomenon in terms of the physical laws that became the center of academic discipline and cultural assumption.
Within the Inoleth (Addewid and Annwn) all entities, whether or not they can be seen, touched or measured, have spirit, even if they don't occupy space, this includes all that is within the Cavnod, which contains Earth. Stated another way, all physical entities are inhabited by, or are possessed by, a Spirit. As a matter of fact, when a sprit leaves its physical manifestation the physical manifestation will cease to exist. According to Addewin Law, which is established by the Henin during councils on Cuniliad Mountain and enforced by the Deru trees living there (see essay: Addewin Laws), "there is no physical aspect of existence which shall be allowed to exist, except while being inhabited by, or bound with, a Spirit".
It was because of this Law that Cren was asked to create the Medel. The Medel are flying creature with a single purpose: to find all spiritless entities and remove them. Within Addewid, this has the effect of making bodies disapear right before the eyes of onlookers. This is because the Medel, which can be seen if one looks at exaclty the right moment, is so fast that it is able remove a lifeless entity without detection. The only evidence is its presence is the disappearance of the entity itself.
Often people on Addewid, when they are in the presence of a lifeless entity, will sense a presence, or perhaps will notice a slight flicker in the periphery of their vision, but when they turn to see more directly towards the movement it is gone. Then suddenly, the lifeless entity is gone, with no physical evidence that it ever existed.
The disembodied Spirit (a Dweled), on the other hand, is quickly captured by a nearby Trosglid, which has the ability to swim quickly beneath the surface of water and to burrow just as quickly below the surface of land, revealing itself only in those brief moments when a spirit is to be captured and drug beneath the surface, at which time the Trosglid will take the Spirit back to the Tavod river so that the Cervin can reconstruct the lost body for the Spirit.
The Trosglid never enters the Cavnod or Annwn, because there is no reconstruction of a physical manifestation for a Spirit in either Annwn or the Cavnod. In Annwn Spirits will enter a newly born entity, where the Spirit will live a new life in a new physical manifestation, usually quite different than the one just terminated. On Earth a disembodied spirit will go adrift within the Cavnod, where the Yew trees will pull it out and place it into the Tavod River.
All Spirits have names and all spirits possess attributes which reflect those of the Henin who played a role in their creation.
Praise be,
